#Seoul Latern Festival 2015

Seoul Lantern Festival 2015-2016

Seoul Lantern Festival is an annual event held from the first Friday to the third Sunday of November (Nov 4-20 in 2016) at the Cheonggyecheon Stream; with various exhibits displayed from Cheonggye Plaza to Supyogyo Bridge.

Photos from my 2015 visit. The lanterns featured both traditional and modern aspects of Korea, and there were participants from foreign countries/cities too.

Isaac Toast egg-cheese sandwich, my first meal in Korea

My first meal in Korea (January 2010) was a simple egg-cheese sandwich at a Korean eatery chain known as Isaac Toast. I just arrived my hostel that day and couldn’t check-in on a cold winter morning, so decided to wander around for breakfast, and there it was, and the meal tasted really good despite its simplicity.

Isaac’s sandwiches (or toasts) are freshly made and the menu is quite simple with affordable price. The bread was grilled with butter, with egg and cheese the common ingredients. Customers can add ham, bacon, salad etc. in between.

Besides sandwiches they also served coffee and drinks; AFAIK the egg-cheese sandwich is no longer available on the menu though.

Koreans tend to pronounce the brand “yee-sark” instead of the conventional English way. The franchise is quite popular among Chinese-speaking visitors, branches at tourist areas are often packed with foreigners.

I’m still a regular customer but there’s one downside with Isaac, their food may seem simple to prepare but each outlet has different quality; some are a bit too oily and soggy etc. Luckily there are more good than bad; the one I frequent near Dongmyo is pretty consistent IF the boss makes the meal herself.

The old Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul is closing/moving soon

Photos from my April 2015 trip to the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, an iconic seafood market in Seoul which is in the process of relocating to a new building just across the street. Many vendors still refuse to move for various reasons though, despite being issued an ultimatum in March 2016.

Hello World! This is Korea travel blog

Korea Travel Blog site icon
I had planned to start a South Korea travel blog since my first visit to the country in 2010. As a matter of fact I bought this website address not long after that, but had procrastinated for ages.

Anyhow, I made numerous trips after the first one; and have stayed in Seoul on and off since April 2015. I recently started a Chinese blog (Seoul Fun Time) with some friends and it occurred to me that I might as well start writing an English one… and hence, after much delay, Koreatravelblog.com is born.

I’m going to introduce places, food and events that I’ve experienced with, as well as various travel news and information. This is the first post, so probably not many will read this LOL. I’ll update a bit about myself here. Stay tune for the rest.
